AIAE is committed to promoting cutting edge economic research aimed at providing the evidence base for policy makers. Key to achieving this end is its attitude of responsive and proactive research- critical economic and allied research to extend the frontiers of knowledge as well as provide evidence for informed policymaking.

A lot of the work AIAE does comes from offering consulting services to governments, international organisations, private sector associations and firms provided such undertakings are consistent with its objectives and mission. Such services aim to provide high quality advice based on empirical research conducted through a network of experts within and outside Nigeria.

The Institute's clients includes government agencies, regional bodies, non-governmental organizations, universities, international organizations, donor agencies and the private sector.

One of the key research outputs of the Institute is its flagship programme BECANS (Business Environment Across Nigerian States).
