SENEC adopted by South-East Governors SENEC adopted by South-East Governors Following the South-East Nigeria Economic Commission (SENEC) study group's meeting with Conference of South-East Governors, the Conference has decided to facilitate its formation and activity. This event took place in Enugu, after a meeting of the South East Governors' Forum on the 10th of April, 2008. In a Communique issued after their meeting, His Excellency, Peter Obi, Executive Governor of Anambra State declared: "The Forum in furtherance of its earlier resolves to facilitate the formation of South East Nigeria Economic Commission (SENEC), agreed that each State Government be represented in the SENEC Steering COmmittee by its Economic Adviser or Chairman of Economic Advisory Committee for immediate take off of the body." The South-East Nigeria Economic Commission initiative grew from successive policy dialogue facilitated by AIAE under the Enugu Forum, a platform of private sector and civil society groups and individuals devoted to evidence-based debates for sound public policies. By rallying stakeholders for the creation of a sub-national economic development agency for the South-East geopolitical zone in Nigeria, AIAE is fulfilling its niche objective of fostering the use of research knowledge. This objective lies at the heart of the AIAE mission statement. |
