Following successful field data collection during November-December 2006, BECANS has commenced quality review and analysis of data on Nigerian states. The quality review is designed to check data for completeness, credibility and reliability. It involves matching data against the supplied documentary evidence in order to ensure accuracy and integrity. The quality review and data analysis are being carried out by the Quality Review Team of the BECANS Technical Working Group.

The quality review and data analysis will provide inputs for the report writing which will involve developing the business environment reports and assessing/ranking states against the respective business environment indicators.
In addition, and in line with the integrated approach of BECANS, advocacy committees are being set up in the states. The advocacy committee is the outreach and dissemination organ of BECANS. The functions of the committee include anchoring data reporting and validation, communicating and disseminating business environment reports, providing feedback on business environment reports, as well as advocacy and consultation based on BECANS evidence and reports.
In the respective states, the advocacy committee will comprise representatives of various public and private sector organizations. The advocacy committees represent landmark efforts in linking research with policy. The unique character of BECANS lies in integrating research and advocacy and providing a live mechanism for synergy between research evidence and policy practice. Through the advocacy committees, BECANS is also strengthening the capacity of state-level stakeholders to dialogue and engage for a better investment climate. |
