Identity
The African Institute for Applied Economics (AIAE) was incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee in Nigeria in 2000. It is not-for-profit, non-partisan and independent organization devoted to economic research, capacity building and networking.
Vision and Mission
Our VISION is a Renascent Africa that is democratic, prosperous and a major player in the global economy. Our MISSION is to provide intellectual leadership in helping Nigeria and Africa think through the emerging economic renaissance.
Goals and Objectives
- Think-Tank/Research: To promote rapid and broad-based economic growth and development in Nigeria and Africa through better policies and strategies by promoting evidence-based decision making
- Direct influence on policy and development outcomes: To directly influence policy and strategy choices and their implementation through policy dialogues and direct participation in policy design, evaluation and implementation.
- Frontier knowledge in economics: To deepen economics knowledge by conducting frontier research and strategic economic thinking
- Capacity Building: To enhance capabilities and skills for cutting-edge economic research and policy analysis by nurturing a critical mass of highly rated internationally competitive economists in the country.

Governance and Management
The Institute is governed by Board of Directors. The Board members are Prof. Chukwuma C. Soludo, Prof. Joseph Stiglitz, Prof. Paul Collier, Mallam Nasir El-Rafai, Dr. Ralph C. Bryant, Mr. Jeffrey C. Fine, Prof. H. Akpan Ekpo, Dr. Brian Wilson, Prof. Ginigeme Mbanefo, and Prof. Eric Eboh, the Executive Director. The Management also includes Research Coordinator, Project Coordinators, Finance and Administrative Manager and Communication/Stakeholder Relationship Manager. Other staff includes Research Associates, Research Assistants, Librarian and Administrative Secretary, Administrative and Finance Assistants. See Staff Profiles.

Networking and Affiliations
Networking is the principal vehicle for research by the Institute. The Institute is affiliated to and actively engaged with several international research and knowledge institutions and networks. The affiliations enable the Institute to share research information, ensure scientific validation and expert review of technical outputs and apply cutting-edge research methods and practices. The Institute collaborates with a number of international networks and institutions. Some of them are: African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), Nairobi; Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODSRIA), Dakar; Centre for Institutional Support for Economic Research in Africa (CISERA), Dakar; Initiative for Policy Dialogue (IPD), New York; Centre for the Study of African Economies, Oxford, UK
It also actively networks with knowledge and policy advocacy institutions in Nigeria, under several forms of collaboration and cooperation.
